The name of my practice is: Psychotherapy to Promote Balance. Is your gut telling you something is amiss and you don’t know what it is?  When you feel ill at ease, when your life is out of balance in terms of work, play, sleep, nourishment, relationships, finances, you may need help.

  • How authentic are you?
  • Is your behavior, and are your choices, consistent with your values.
  • How would you rate the quality of your family, personal, and professional relationships?
  • Is your relationship with food “out of whack”?
  • Is there something that is troubling you that you need objective input and feedback?
  • Are you having trouble expressing your self?
  • How often do you agree to something that you later regret?
  • Is there something in your history that you need to understand in a clearer way?
  • Do you have goals that seem elusive?
  • Do you have the skills and insight to help you achieve your goals?
  • Do you have a family member, who is a challenge and you don’t know what to do?

Everyone at various points in their lives need a compassionate listener.  It is important we all have a person who can validate our experience. The opportunity to have a trustworthy and highly experienced counselor, who is actively participating and providing objective feedback. This counselor has useful tools that can help manage life experience in a more satisfying way. Having an effective therapist can be a very healing and satisfying endeavor. It helps if this counselor incorporates metaphors and gentle humor to aid in the healing process.  I can be that person for you.

Effective therapy can be a lot of hard work. Therapy can be painful at times.  But “it hurts so good”, because you worked hard to achieve greater insight and understanding of your self, and of others. You can do it!! Are you ready?

Help is here. Counseling services have been provided to individuals, couples, families, children, adolescents, and groups, since 1983. There are a wide variety of tools and skills I can teach you so you can apply them in your everyday lives.  In the “client information” section, under the “Client Packet” tab, is a form that will help me understand your current issues as well as your personal history. Together, we will establish a plan of action. You can accomplish your goals.

Bipolar Disorder is a specialty of mine. The creation of a treatment protocol was developed by an think tank of colleagues and I. We created cutting edge of assessment and treatment strategies designed to help professionals and their clients. We presented our findings to a group of mental health professionals in 2001. In the fall of 2014, I presented at the “36th Institute for Clinical Specialists in Psychiatric Nursing”. Interpersonal Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) was the topic of my presentation.  Individuals who struggle with Bipolar Disorder tend to be very bright and creative. This is a wonderful group of

people with whom I enjoy working. Their family members can benefit by working with me also. Very valuable tools and skills are immensely helpful for the family members as well.

Anxiety Disorders can be so very damaging! Anxiety can be so limiting of our lives. Anxiety often includes symptoms of depression. Then it can be, “which came first…the chicken or the egg”. Anxiety often involves “thought distortions”.  Once the distorted thought is identified, it can usually be refuted with change in one’s thinking. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or, CBT encompasses a set of tools that help a person change the patterns of their thinking. Anxiety symptoms can be lessened or eliminated with effective counseling and consistent practice, and use of tools.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills will be interwoven into my work with you. Homework between sessions is an important part of therapy.  It would be so beneficial if DBT skills were incorporated in school curriculums beginning in grammar school! They are so basic and so very helpful. DBT skills are widely applicable. Feel free to check out the attached link:

There are numerous handouts I will give you so you can practice DBT skills anywhere and with anyone.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a tool that can be utilized to process past trauma. Often when someone has been traumatized, it can be limiting a persons life experience. Hence, EMDR can provide a release from past trauma. EMDR is a powerfully healing tool.

Assertiveness is a skill that eludes many people. Reading the advise columns in the newspaper, most everyone is struggling with an issue regarding “assertiveness”. Women in our culture are raised to “smile and be nice”. That sort of teaching can be a problem for women in “the real world”.   Boundaries are so important to be able to establish and maintain many sorts of relationships, including the relationship you have with your self. There are numerous tools that I can help you implement. You can be successfully in charge of your self and your life.

No More Mr. Nice Guy is a trap many men fall into. There are tools for that!

Bullying can take many forms and in many venues. Bullying can take place in the workplace, in your family, and, by your neighbor. Are you screamed at, ignored, lied to, and excluded? Are your talents and knowledge ignored?  Is your participation sabotaged? When you do complain, do you hear:  “…you’re too sensitive”, “…it was just a joke.” “… grow up and get over it.”  There are tools I can teach you.
